The Scarecrows' Wedding

"This is a competent adaptation of the children’s story about two scarecrows who fall in love and want to get married. They assemble a wish list of things for their big day, and with just pink flowers needed, “Harry” sets off to find some. His journey turns out to be quite an epic one, and meantime “Betty” finds herself attracting the unwanted attention of the spiv “Reginald”. Can “Harry” get back in time to save her from his machinations and tie the knot? There is something very natural about the characterisations here, with all three scarecrows and even the farmer and his tractor having details to their shapes, clothing and faces that are really quite engaging as the two have their own adventures. Along the way, nature gets a look in with bees, frogs, birds and dogs all adding a bit of richness to a simple story that is short, but quite sweet."
