The film’s atmosphere is rich, pulling you deeper into the story as it unfolds. Mala’s backstory, revealed through flashbacks, adds surprising depth to her character. By the final act, she becomes someone you empathize with, which isn’t something you expect from a horror movie. The transition to the emotional climax is handled well, with the main protagonist, Dara, standing out as her story hits home in the final moments. While there’s room for deeper character development earlier in the film, Pulau Hantu succeeds in delivering a story that is both suspenseful and emotionally resonant.
